Hamirpur boat tragedy: Six bodies recovered, five children among victims

Hamirpur, May 7: The death toll in the boat accident that occurred late Wednesday evening in the Yamuna River in village Qutubpur Majra Bhauli, under the Kurara police station area of ​​Hamirpur district in Uttar Pradesh, rose to six on Thursday.

On Thursday evening, a joint team of SDRF, NDRF, and local divers recovered the body of the sixth missing child. Taking cognizance of the boat accident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed senior officials to the scene and carry out rescue and relief operations.

According to the incident, some people attending a wedding were crossing the river in a boat to eat watermelons. The boat suddenly lost balance and capsized in the middle of the river. Nine people were aboard. Following the accident, there was widespread outcry and people began drowning. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Hamirpur, the Sadar Circle Officer, and the Kurara Police Station arrived at the scene and began relief and rescue operations. Teams of the NDRF, SDRF, the Flood PAC, and local divers conducted a continuous search operation. According to the police, three people were rescued and taken to the Kurara CHC. During the search operation, the bodies of Brijrani, wife of Pappu Nishad (35), Archana, daughter of Sarvesh (14), Rani, daughter of Bachchan (9), Akanksha, daughter of Ramhit (9), Lavyansh, son of Pappu (5), and Gaure alias Aditya (12), son of Mahesh, a resident of Ghatampur, Kanpur Nagar, were recovered.

The site was inspected by the Additional Director General of Police, Prayagraj Zone, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Chitrakoot Dham Range, Banda, District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal, and Superintendent of Police, Mrigank Shekhar Pathak.

Officials directed the authorities to expedite relief operations. Meanwhile, Chairperson of the National Backward Classes Commission and former Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and regional MLA Manoj Prajapati also reached the site. He met with the affected families, expressed his condolences, and assured them of all possible assistance and compensation. Following the incident, the entire area is in mourning.

CO Sadar Rajesh Kamal stated that the bodies of a woman and five children were recovered during a search operation today. A Panchnama (inquest report) is being filed and post-mortems are being conducted.

Minister of State for Water Power meets the affected families: Upon receiving information about the boat accident, Minister of State for Water Power and Minister-in-Charge Ramkesh Nishad reached the scene and met with the affected families, assuring them of all possible assistance. Seeing the Minister, the relatives of the deceased broke down in tears. Expressing deep sorrow over the deaths of six people in the boat accident, the Minister-in-Charge stated that the government stands with the affected families and will provide financial assistance to the victims. Municipal Council President Kuldeep Nishad, BJP District President Shakuntala Nishad, and others were present on the occasion.
