
Bahubali former MLA Vijay Mishra gets life imprisonment in 46 year old murder case
Prayagraj, May 13: The MP-MLA Special Court has sentenced Bahubali former MLA Vijay Mishra to life imprisonment in a 46 year old murder case. The MP-MLA Special Court has also announced punishment to three other accused in the same case, Jeet Narayan Mishra, Santram Mishra and Balram Mishra.
The court has sentenced all four accused including Vijay Mishra to rigorous life imprisonment under IPC section 302 and a fine of Rs. 1 lakh each. While the sentence of 10 years imprisonment has been given under section 307 of IPC.
Both sentences will run concurrently, so the maximum sentence of life imprisonment will be considered. Judge Yogesh Kumar III of the MP-MLA Special Court announced the sentencing in open court. The MP-MLA Special Court convicted all four accused on Tuesday and pronounced the sentence on Wednesday.
The case involves the shooting death of 35-year-old Prakash Narayan Pandey in the court premises on February 11, 1980. University student Prakash Narayan Pandey had come to the district court to seek bail in a case filed against him. Prakash Narayan Pandey had a feud with Santram and Balram. It is alleged that Santram, Balram, Vijay Mishra, and Jeet Narayan conspired to shoot and kill Prakash Narayan Pandey. Five other people were also injured in the firing. The day of the shooting also happened to be Prakash Narayan Pandey’s birthday. The deceased’s elder brother, Shyam Narayan Pandey, a resident of Hathigawan Nawabganj, filed an FIR at the Colonelganj police station.
Vijay Mishra is already lodged in Agra jail. The other three accused were on bail who were taken into custody and sent to jail after the court declared them guilty yesterday. Bahubali Vijay Mishra was brought to the court premises under tight security for the pronouncement of the verdict. The security of the court was tightened due to the pronouncement of the verdict. A heavy police force was also deployed outside the MP-MLA Special Court. Bahubali former MLA Vijay Mishra was left speechless as soon as the sentence was announced in the court. Vijay Mishra’s wife Ramlali Mishra and daughter advocate Reema Mishra were also present when the sentence was announced.
According to ADGC Criminal Sushil Kumar Vaishya, this high-profile case had a stay order from the Allahabad High Court for a long time. Subsequently, the case file was made to disappear, preventing the accused from being punished. However, in 2024, during the tenure of GC Criminal Gulabchand Agrahari, the file was re-prepared and testimony in the trial began. ADGC Criminal Sushil Kumar Vaishya and Special Public Prosecutor Virendra Kumar Singh strongly argued for the prosecution. Advocate Tarachandra Gupta and other lawyers represented Vijay Mishra in the defense.
The initial testimony in this case was held before MP-MLA Special Court Judge Dr. Dinesh Chandra Shukla. Following the life sentence, Vijay Mishra and three other convicts now have the option of filing a criminal appeal in the Allahabad High Court. Vijay Mishra’s family has stated that they will file a criminal appeal in the High Court against the MP-MLA Special Court’s decision.
