Central government steps up vigil against vector-borne diseases
New Delhi, June 18: The central government is on high alert to prevent mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria before the monsoon. Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda held a high-level review meeting on Thursday to review preparations across the country and directed states and health institutions to remain vigilant.
During the meeting, the Health Minister directed hospitals to ensure adequate availability of medicines, testing facilities, and beds.
According to the Health Ministry, J.P. Nadda directed that all protocols related to the prevention, testing, and treatment of dengue and malaria be strictly followed so that patients can receive timely treatment.
Nadda stated that early identification and prompt treatment can prevent serious cases. He also urged states to strengthen surveillance systems and exercise special vigilance in potentially affected areas.
He also emphasized the need to increase public awareness to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. He appealed to people to avoid water stagnation in and around their homes, maintain cleanliness, and adopt mosquito prevention measures.
He clarified that the health system will be fully prepared to deal with any situation during the monsoon season, and that constant coordination will be maintained with the states.
