Classroom discipline mandate—PM Modi tells teachers to track every step
New Delhi, September 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on teachers to pay attention to students’ behavior, daily routine, and mental state, in addition to their studies and academic achievements. He urged teachers to be vigilant against the increasing drug addiction and excessive screen use among children.
The Prime Minister was interacting with teachers and academicians honored with the National Teachers’ Award at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg on Friday evening. This year’s 82 awardees participated in the event, held a day before Teachers’ Day. These included 48 school teachers, 21 teachers from higher education institutions and polytechnics, and 13 skill trainers.
The Prime Minister emphasized that a teacher’s responsibility is not limited to simply completing the curriculum. They should recognize changes in students’ behavior and provide individualized guidance when needed.
Modi said that due to the weakening of the traditional joint family system, the role of teachers in children’s lives has become more important than ever. In this context, teachers need to increase communication with children and understand the reasons behind their problems.
The Prime Minister specifically mentioned the increasing trend of drug addiction among children. He said that teachers should monitor sudden changes in students’ behavior and, if they show signs of drug addiction, should guide them in the right direction and help them overcome this problem.
He also stressed the need to be cautious about excessive screen use.
Modi emphasized the importance of nurturing children’s natural curiosity rather than suppressing it. He said that it is important to maintain their innocence and eagerness to learn.
The Prime Minister also described inculcating a sense of dignity of labor in students as an important responsibility of teachers. He said that children should be taught the importance of hard work and respect for all types of work.
During the interaction, National Teacher Award winners shared their teaching experiences with the Prime Minister. The teachers shared information about various innovations and experiments they have adopted to make classroom teaching more effective, interesting, and useful for students.
Appreciating these efforts of the teachers, the Prime Minister said that education is not limited to books and exams; rather, teachers play a vital role in shaping the overall personality and future of children.
