Delhi university polls heat up as allegations of fake slips surface
New Delhi, September 18: Politics has heated up over allegations of distribution of fake slips amid tight security arrangements in the colleges of North and South Campus during the voting for Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) Elections 2026 on Friday. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has accused the National Students Union of India (NSUI) of distributing fake slips.
The main contest for the four central posts of DUSU is between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supported ABVP and the Congress student wing NSUI. In the ABVP panel, Yash Dabas is contesting for the post of President, Ishu Maurya for the post of Vice President, Riya Chhabadi for the post of Secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh for the post of Joint Secretary.
Meanwhile, NSUI has fielded Vijay Shankar Meena for the post of president, Vir Chatrath for the post of vice-president, Namrata Chaudhary for the post of secretary, and Gopal Chaudhary for the post of co-secretary.
During the voting, ABVP’s presidential candidate, Yash Dabas, claimed victory in all four seats and told the media that the student council’s first priority would be to conduct a thorough safety audit of all colleges, hostels, and private PGs and make the report public. Citing the Satya Niketan incident, he called for taking strict action against the municipal corporation administration.
Meanwhile, outgoing DUSU president Aryan Mann emphasized the need to advance the 2,300-bed women’s hostel project, implement a rent control law in the university area, and install over 1,000 CCTV cameras.
Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra also visited Vivekananda College to interact with students and expressed confidence in ABVP’s victory based on nationalist thinking.
During the voting, complaints of code of conduct violations were reported from several centers, including the Campus Law Center (CLC), Dayal Singh College, and Kirori Mal College (KMC). ABVP alleged that outside elements, supported by the NSUI, printed fake panel pamphlets in the name of ABVP and distributed them among students to mislead voters. A student from the CLC was arrested and handed over to the police for distributing the false pamphlets.
Meanwhile, there was deep dissatisfaction among the general students regarding the lack of drinking water on campus, broken furniture in classrooms, faulty microphones, and a lack of blackboards.
Students associated with socialist ideology alleged that fairness was being ignored in the professor recruitment process and PhD admissions. They said that despite being in power, both ABVP and NSUI have failed to address fundamental problems, leading to the need for alternative student politics on campus.
The university administration and Delhi Police had made tight security arrangements at polling stations. The counting of votes will take place on Saturday, after which the official results will be declared.
This election year centered around key issues such as women’s safety, safety audits of hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodation, dilapidated campus infrastructure, and transparency in academic appointments. During the voting, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leveled serious allegations against the National Students Union of India (NSUI) of distributing fake panel slips and violating election guidelines.
