Heavy rain floods Noida Airport; public raises concerns online despite quick restoration
Noida, August 12: Heavy rain on Tuesday flooded the premises of Noida International Airport, blocking the road to the parking lot, though the airport’s public relations department stated the water was cleared within 30 minutes and flight operations resumed normally, even as a video of the incident went viral on social media.
In the viral video, airport employees are seen trying to remove the water after the flooding. People took videos of this, which are going viral on social media. A flight to Dharamshala was also canceled on Tuesday due to bad weather. Noida Airport is equipped with CAT-III technology, allowing safe landings even during heavy rain and fog.
This airport is included in the ambitious projects of the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments. Commercial flights resumed here on June 15. Less than two months have passed, and the arrangements here are already being questioned. When it started raining on Tuesday afternoon, the subway in the underground compound leading from the airport terminal to the parking and taxi stand began to fill with water. Within a short time, the water spread throughout the compound. Passengers faced difficulties and had to take a detour to reach the airport entrance.
Some people have posted videos of the waterlogging on social media, raising questions about the arrangements. People say that the international airport, built at a cost of ₹11,000 crore, lacks even a drainage system.
The airport’s public relations department issued a statement regarding this matter, stating that the road connecting the terminal and parking area was flooded after the rain, but the airport team restored the situation within 30 minutes. This did not impact flight operations or airport operations.
