If needed, I won’t hesitate to seek help from Left parties to stop BJP: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, May 09: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, has once again stirred up political turmoil in the state with her statement. She said that if needed, she wouldn’t mind seeking help from Left parties to stop the growing influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.

Mamata Banerjee made this statement during the Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti celebrations held near her residence in Kalighat, Kolkata. She attended the event along with several MLAs from her party.

Banerjee said that all political parties must rise above ideological differences to protect democracy and safeguard Bengal’s interests. She appealed to anti-BJP parties to unite, hinting that given the political situation, dialogue with even “extreme leftist” ideologies is possible if the goal is to stop the BJP.

Mamata Banerjee claimed that several opposition leaders, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and Aam Aadmi Party national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have called her and assured her of their support.

She said that while crowds may be smaller at political events currently, public support remains with her. The Chief Minister also appealed to student organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), social organizations, and volunteer groups to join the campaign. However, she expressed doubts about the role of the business community, citing their often divergent interests.

During the event, Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore and emphasized cultural unity and social harmony. She alleged that the government had denied permission to hold Rabindra Jayanti events at three locations.
