New corridors of power: New ‘Vidhan Bhawan’ to be built on Sahara City land, LDA issues tender
Lucknow, May 23: A new, grand, state-of-the-art Vidhan Bhawan will be constructed on 245 acres of land in Sahara City, located in Gomti Nagar , Lucknow.
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has issued a tender for the selection of consultants and architects for design and planning. With the construction of this new Vidhan Bhawan, the 98-year-old Vidhan Bhawan in Hazratganj will be retired and consigned to the pages of history.
In 1994, the Municipal Corporation provided 245 acres of land in Gomti Nagar to the Sahara India Group on a 30-year lease. The lease expired last year in 2025. Following violations of the lease terms and the expiry of the lease term, the Municipal Corporation and LDA reclaimed the land. Of the total 245 acres of proposed land, 170 acres belongs to the Municipal Corporation and 75 acres to the LDA. This is where Uttar Pradesh’s high-tech Vidhan Bhavan will be built.
This new complex will be designed to accommodate the future increase in the number of MLAs following delimitation. The complex is planned to include the Legislative Assembly, the Legislative Council, ministers’ chambers, modern amenities, improved parking, green areas, digital infrastructure, and a fully paperless technology for smooth VIP movement.
LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar stated that a tender has been issued to select a consultant and architect for the design and planning of the new Vidhan Bhavan. Interested companies can apply for this tender process from May 23rd to June 21st. After the consultant is selected, the detailed project project project (DPR) and total construction cost will be finalized. The Housing and Urban Planning Department has been designated as the nodal agency for the project, while the Public Works Department (PWD) will handle the technical aspects. A final decision will be made at the government level after receiving the consultant’s report. Once the design is finalized, a presentation will be made before Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
On February 11, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna allocated ₹100 crore for the new Vidhan Bhavan in the 2026-27 budget. On February 4, the government ordered the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly to finalize the site and submit the design.
The 98-year-old Vidhan Bhavan will retire
The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Bhavan) was completed on February 21, 1928, in the Hazratganj area. The nearly 98-year-old Vidhan Bhavan is currently facing space constraints due to the increasing number of MLAs. VIP movement and the main road during House sessions impact traffic flow. The construction of a new Vidhan Bhavan will alleviate these issues.
