Fresh Tamasha on Roads: ‘People Against SIR’ announces nationwide march on Oct 23

New Delhi, October 21: Students, left parties, and social activists have come together to form a group named ‘People Against SIR’ (PASIR), announcing a nationwide march on October 23 under its banner to protest against the central government.

The group has also appealed to opposition parties to join the march against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan shared the statement and said that the call for a mass march on October 23rd has been given to restore democracy and establish Jantar Mantars across the country.

The statement said that on October 14, organizations including students, youth, farmers, workers, women, Dalits, tribals, minorities, disabled, transgender, etc. met to form a broad alliance under the banner of ‘People Against SIR’. They have called for a mass march on October 23rd to restore democracy and establish Jantar Mantars across the country.

They argue that Indian democracy is in deep crisis. The electoral process has been hijacked. Voter lists have been tampered with. The Election Commission, considered above the law, has been chosen to serve Modi and Shah.

Signed by Prakash Raj, Parakala Prabhakar ( Nirmala Sitharaman’s husband), Rakesh Tikait, Anjali Bhardwaj, and other activists, the appeal calls on youth, civil society groups, and India Bloc parties to demonstrate in the streets with the tricolor under the slogan “Tricolor in every hand, Jantar Mantar in every street.”

Delhi High Court Flags Bond Breach in CJP Leaders’ Case

The Delhi High Court today told Abhik Chimni, counsel for Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, that the matter involves violation of a precautionary notice followed by issuance of another.

The court observed that a peace bond was executed and subsequently broken, raising questions about its legality. “If he breaks the bond, could it be considered completely illegal or against the law to demand a surety in such a situation?” the bench asked.

The High Court suggested that the leaders’ counsel first approach the appellate court before seeking relief from the High Court, keeping the surety demand under judicial scrutiny.
