🌧️ Rain returns to Uttar Pradesh; Showers lash several districts
Lucknow, September 19: Weather activity revived across Uttar Pradesh on Saturday with widespread showers in several districts, while the capital and nearby areas saw fluctuating conditions under mostly cloudy skies; the maximum temperature in Lucknow is expected to hover around 32°C and the minimum near 26°C.
According to Atul Kumar Singh, senior meteorologist at the Lucknow Meteorological Center, there is a high possibility of moderate to heavy rain at some places in Lucknow, Hardoi, and Sitapur over the next three hours. Strong winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 kilometers per hour. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning. Heavy rains affected life in Lucknow today due to the changing weather. The rains caused waterlogging on roadsides and streets in many low-lying areas, causing traffic problems. Vehicles slowed down on major roads during the downpour. Two-wheeler riders faced particular difficulties in waterlogged areas.
Singh told that in rural areas, the rains have irrigated fields, which is expected to benefit paddy and other Kharif crops. However, in areas with continuous heavy rainfall, there is a risk of crop damage due to excessive waterlogging in fields. Waterlogging in low-lying areas and mud on unpaved roads have disrupted rural transportation.
The met official further added that the possibility of strong winds along with the rains has increased the risk of falling trees and power poles. The Meteorological Department has advised avoiding open spaces during thunderstorms and maintaining distance from trees, power poles, and weak structures.
The rains have also caused a drop in temperatures in the state. This change in weather is providing relief from the heat and humidity, but the challenge of drainage systems has increased in areas experiencing continuous rainfall. Clouds are also looming over Kanpur and Unnao. The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds here as well.
