
SIT begins probe into Lucknow coaching center fire, inspects scene and collects evidence
Lucknow, June 23: The investigation into the fire that broke out at a coaching center in Aliganj, Lucknow, has begun as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inspected the scene on Tuesday and collected evidence. Following this, the SIT arrived at the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and interviewed the injured.
Prior to this, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting late last night regarding the Aliganj fire incident. He directed action to be taken by identifying the culprits.
The SIT, formed on the Chief Minister’s instructions, includes Additional Chief Secretary of the Culture Department, Amrit Abhijat, and Lucknow’s ADG Zone, Praveen Kumar. The investigation team will submit its report to the Chief Minister within seven days. Following the incident, a forensic team arrived at the scene along with the SIT on Tuesday. The forensic team has sealed the entire building for investigation. The team is collecting evidence from inside.
Answering questions from reporters after the incident, ADG Lucknow Zone Praveen Kumar stated that the forensic team inspected the scene. The team collected evidence. After assessing the condition of the injured at the hospital, a report will be submitted to the government on the findings.
It’s worth noting that the building in Purania area in Aliganj where the fire broke out, had a pet shop on the first floor and a coaching center on the second floor. It also houses a library and a gaming zone. The fire broke out in the pet shop on Monday afternoon and then spread to the coaching center on the second floor.
Seeing the fire and smoke spreading, students at the coaching center hid in bathrooms and rooms to save their lives. Some climbed down the wall using a cable, while others jumped from the roof, sustaining injuries. Following the loss of life in the fire, the administration initiated action.
A named FIR has been registered at the Aliganj police station against six people. Four of them have been arrested. The four responsible officers have also been suspended.
