Speed for Survival—Vande Bharat Express becomes lifeline in historic heart transit
New Delhi, July 31: The Indian Railways has created history by safely transporting a live heart from Surat to Ahmedabad via Vande Bharat Express for the first time. This heart will be transplanted at the U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center in Ahmedabad. The live heart was brought to Ahmedabad by train number 20901 Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express.
The entire operation was extremely time-critical, as it was essential to deliver the heart to the hospital within the stipulated time. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Gujarat Police created a green corridor to transport the heart from Ahmedabad Railway Station to the hospital. This ensured the heart was transported directly to the hospital without any obstruction, preventing delays in the transplant.
Ahmedabad Division Divisional Railway Manager Vedprakash described this achievement as a proud moment for Indian Railways, saying that every minute counts in such life-saving operations. He stated that the mission was successful due to excellent coordination between Indian Railways, RPF, Gujarat Police, and medical teams. He stated that Indian Railways’ role in saving a life is not just a responsibility but the highest duty towards service and humanity.
According to the Railways, the speed, punctuality, and reliability of the Vande Bharat Express played a crucial role in the success of this mission. This achievement demonstrates that Indian Railways is not limited to passenger and freight transportation but is also becoming an effective medium for providing life-saving healthcare in emergency situations.
Various departments of Indian Railways, the Railway Protection Force, the Gujarat State Police, doctors, organ transplant coordinators, and other related officials and staff played a crucial role in the success of this mission. The Railways stated that this challenging mission was successfully accomplished due to prompt and effective coordination between all agencies.
