UP police arrests history-sheet drug peddler with Codeine cough syrup

Bahraich, May 22: A history-sheeter was arrested in a joint operation by the Drug Department and a Bahraich police team in Rupaidiha on Friday afternoon on the India-Nepal international border. The arrested history-sheeter was involved in drug trafficking. Fifteen vials of codeine cough syrup were recovered from him.

Police arrested him from a cold drink shop near the Rana Petrol Pump in the Kewalpur area on Nepal Road. It is alleged that the shop had been selling narcotic cough syrup for a long time. Following a complaint, Drug Inspector Vinay Krishna and the Rupaidiha Police Station Officer conducted a raid on Friday.

Police detained the shop’s owner, Omprakash Soni. During the search, 15 vials of cough syrup were recovered from the accused. According to police, the accused was dealing in banned cough syrup without a license.

The Rupaidiha police station officer Ramesh Rawat stated that the accused sold narcotic cough syrup under the guise of a cold drink shop. Following complaints from local residents, police were monitoring his activities. A case has been registered under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act and Section 27B2 of the Drugs Act, 1940. The accused has been arrested and is being sent to jail.

The Police Station Officer also stated that the arrested accused is a history-sheeter. He has previously been charged with assault, fraud, gangsterism, and other serious criminal offenses, including those under the SC/ST Act.
