UP police cracks Bihar gang targeting women’s jewelry under cleaning pretext
Ballia, August 28: The Ballia police have arrested two criminals from a gang that stole women’s jewelry and old brass utensils under the guise of cleaning them. One of the accused was shot in the leg in the encounter. An illegal pistol, cartridges, stolen jewelry, cash, and a bike were recovered from him.
The superintendent of police (SP) Omveer Singh said on Saturday morning that at around 12 o’clock last night, local police were conducting night patrol and checking on the Bhimpura Police Ibrahim Patti-Udharan road. Acting on a tip-off, the police team surrounded the suspects near Premraja village. Police claim that Arvind Soni, seeing himself surrounded, opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, Arvind was shot in the right leg.
The injured, Arvind Soni (42), a resident of Panchveer, Sahebpur Kamal police station, Begusarai district, Bihar, was sent to CHC Nagra for treatment. His companion, Pankaj Soni (19), was arrested at the scene.
During interrogation, police learned that the two accused had roamed villages on August 21 and 24, stealing jewelry from women and old brass utensils under the guise of cleaning them.
The police recovered an illegal .315-bore pistol, one live and one empty cartridge, three yellow metal ornaments, ₹15,600 in cash, and a motorcycle from the accused. The injured accused is reported to be in good condition. Police have initiated further legal action against both.
