
UP STF ends reign of hostage-taking criminal in Noida encounter
Noida, July 7: In a morning encounter, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force’s (STF) Noida unit gunned down a ₹1 lakh reward bandit with over 21 cases across three states, recovering a .32-bore pistol, pony gun, cartridges, and a motorcycle, as police ended the reign of a criminal notorious for looting and murdering victims by holding them hostage in their homes.
Additional Superintendent of Police, UP STF (Noida Unit), Rajkumar Mishra, said on Tuesday that a team from the Noida unit of the UP STF engaged in an encounter with a notorious criminal this morning. He was hit by a bullet fired by the team. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment, where he died. He said the deceased criminal was identified as Asif alias Vicky Chhamar, son of Babu Majhar, resident of Makanpur, Kanpur district.
He said the said criminal had carried out a deadly attack on five people by taking them hostage in a house in Shahganj police station, Jaunpur district, in 2014. Two people died in this attack. A reward of one lakh rupees was announced on him.
He said the criminal, along with his gang members, would enter homes, take people hostage, and rob them. If anyone resisted, the gang members would kill them. He said 21 cases have been registered against him in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
