Varanasi saree trader killed by ‘banned’ Chinese manjha
Varanasi, October 11: The deadly menace of banned Chinese thread claimed another life on Sunday when a middle‑aged saree trader riding his bike on the Kajjakpura flyover in Jaitpura got entangled in the sharp thread that slit his neck, causing him to lose control and crash into the flyover wall; he was rushed to hospital but declared dead, triggering chaos and grief among his family members, police told.
According to information received, Sunil Kumar Gujarati (60), son of Krishnadas Gujarati, a saree trader by profession, originally from Chaukhambha in the Chowk police station area, was returning to his garden in Ashapur after visiting the Shailputri temple in Alipur. Meanwhile, while crossing the Kajjakpura flyover, a Chinese manja suddenly got entangled in his neck. Before he could stop the bike, the manja cut his neck. He lost control of the bike and crashed into the opposite wall. Sunil Kumar was seriously injured in the accident.
Upon receiving information, the Jaitpura police arrived at the scene and, with the help of an e-rickshaw driver, rushed him to the divisional hospital in Kabir Chaura. However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
The tragic death of Sunil Kumar after his neck was fatally slit by banned Chinese manja on the Kajjakpura flyover plunged his family into mourning and reignited public outrage, with locals warning that kite flying in densely populated areas like Saraiya, Amarpur Madhiya, Puranapul, and Kajjakpura poses a deadly risk to drivers, prompting calls for strict police enforcement as Jaitpura police registered a case and began investigation.
