“Everyone worships the rising sun”: Only seven MLAs and two MPs attend Mamata Banerjee’s protest in Kolkata
Kolkata, June 2: The limited presence of party representatives at the protest organized by former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday at the Y Channel in Dharmatala, Kolkata, has sparked renewed debate in political circles. Following the recent assembly elections, only seven Trinamool MLAs and two MPs participated in the protest against the BJP government.
The MLAs present at the protest included Chandrima Bhattacharya, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Nayana Bandyopadhyay, Madan Mitra, Ashok Deb, Asima Patra, and Biman Banerjee. Among the MPs present were Dola Sen and Kalyan Banerjee.
Despite the recent elections, the Trinamool Congress retains a significant number of elected representatives, with 80 MLAs. Opposition parties are raising questions about the limited number of MLAs and MPs attending the party chief’s important political event. Political analysts believe this situation could further fuel ongoing discontent and discussions about dissension within the party.
Addressing the protest, Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP government. She alleged that Trinamool workers and leaders in the state were being targeted and attempts were being made to break the party. Mamata stated that she would not abandon party workers in these difficult times and would continue the protests.
She also mentioned the controversy surrounding the recognition of the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and the alleged fake signatures. Mamata said that if anyone doubts the authenticity of the signatures of Trinamool MLAs, they should be forensically examined.
It is noteworthy that there is talk in West Bengal that expelled Trinamool Congress MLA Ritabrata Banerjee could submit a letter of support from 50 to 55 MLAs to the Assembly Speaker and claim to be the true TMC leader with those same MLAs.
