Auto driver nabbed in Lucknow encounter for molesting exam candidates
Lucknow, June 9: In a late-night shootout in the Para police station area, the Lucknow police arrested a notorious criminal who lured female passengers into his auto, took them to secluded spots, and committed indecent acts, with prior imprisonment in a similar case.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West, Kamlesh Dixit stated that the arrested accused, Haseeb, originally from Mirzanpur village in Hardoi, was currently living in the Hyder Canal Nala, Para police station area.
This morning, the accused lured two young women going to take an police recruitment exam into his auto from near the Charbagh bus stand to take them to Alambagh. He then took them to a secluded area near the Ramlila Ground in the Para police station area and attempted to rape them. When they resisted, he assaulted the girls, misbehaved with them, and seriously injured them. Given the seriousness of the matter, a case was registered at the Para police station under relevant sections.
Late last night, when police, acting on a tip-off, surrounded the accused along with his auto, the criminal opened fire with intent to kill. The accused was shot in the leg in self-defense, injuring him. He was arrested and sent to Rani Lakshmibai Hospital for treatment.
The police recovered the auto used in the incident, a pistol, and live and empty cartridges. Questioning and investigation revealed that accused Haseeb is a habitual criminal. Previously, in 2024, he committed a similar crime in the Sandila police station area of Hardoi district. He took a woman in his auto to a secluded area and raped her, for which he was jailed. Police are taking further action.
