Kolkata, 13 December: Thirty-six cities of West Bengal are among the world’s 100 most polluted cities, said a data of Air Quality Index (AQI) on Tuesday.
According to the live report of Air Quality Index till 3 pm on Tuesday, the AQI of English Bazar area of Maldah district of West Bengal was 342, which was the highest in West Bengal. English Bazar on Tuesday ranked 17th in the list of 100 most polluted cities across the world, while Balurghat with 339 AQI was 18th, Bankura 20th with 325 AQI, Panihati 28th with 316 AQI and Rishra ranked 29th in the report.
Khardah ranked 30th with 315 AQI, Serampore 31st and Titagarh remained at 32nd rank. Kulti ranked 34th with 314 AQI, Bhadreshwar 37th with 313 AQI, Bhatpara 38th with 312 AQI, Champdani 39th, Chandannagar 40th, Habra 41st, Halishahar 42nd, Hooghly 43rd, Kalyani 44th, Kanchdrapada 45th, Krishnanagar 46th, Madhyamgram 47th, Naihati 48th, Nabadwip 49th and Shantipur ranked 50th. Along with this, Bansberia stood at 51st position with 311 AQI, Bally at 53rd position with 308 AQI, Bangaon at 54th position and Durgapur at 56th position.
Apart from this, Basirhat is 57th with 306 AQI, Dumdum 58th with 305 AQI, Ulbedia 59th with 302 AQI, Howrah 60th with 297 AQI, Asansol 61st with 295 AQI, Barasat 66th with 287 AQI, Kolkata 68th with 277 AQI. With an AQI of 220, Baharampur stood at 92nd position and Burdwan at 94th position with 217 AQI.
At the beginning of winter itself, the level of air pollution increased in various cities of West Bengal has increased the concern of the residents here.
