‘Delhi Laxmi Yojana’ announced; Women to get direct benefit transfer of ₹2,500 starting Sep1
New Delhi, August 26: The Delhi government on Wednesday formally launched the ‘Delhi Laxmi Yojana’ at a function held at Talkatora Stadium, with Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi MPs, ministers, and public representatives jointly inaugurating the scheme.
Under this important initiative dedicated to women’s economic empowerment, financial security, and self-reliance, acceptance letters have been issued to 4,190 eligible beneficiaries following the prescribed eligibility and verification process. Under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month will be transferred to eligible women’s bank accounts through DBT from September 1. Women will be able to use this amount as per their wish for their needs and family expenses, both large and small.
During the event, guests symbolically presented acceptance letters to 65 selected beneficiary women. These acceptance letters, on the occasion of the launch of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, symbolized the government’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment and advancement with dignity and self-reliance. The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana aims to strengthen the financial security, self-reliance, and empowerment of senior eligible women in the family, aged between 21 and 60, by providing them financial assistance. Under the scheme, each eligible woman will receive financial assistance of Rs. 2,500 per month.
Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee means a guarantee of completion, and the launch of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is a testament to the fulfillment of this pledge. Under the Prime Minister’s guidance, the Central Government is continuously working for the welfare and empowerment of the mothers and sisters of the country. The Delhi Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is committed to providing essential facilities and economic opportunities to women. The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is an important initiative to empower women financially, enhance their self-esteem, and make them self-reliant. He congratulated the Chief Minister on fulfilling this important commitment.
On this occasion, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the sisters and daughters of Delhi.
He stated that this scheme, launched on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, is a special gift for the women of Delhi. Citing the thoughts of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, he said that how can a woman who gave birth to great kings and great men be considered bad? Nearly half the country’s population is women, and women will have an equal role in building a developed Delhi and a developed India. Prime Minister Modi has envisioned various streams of national power, including manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, technology, innovation, mobility, defense, green and blue economy, and soft power. Women’s power plays a crucial role in all these areas. Building national power is possible only through women’s power.
LG stated that in the Indian family system, women are considered “Griha Lakshmi.” The Delhi Lakshmi Scheme, in keeping with this spirit, is an important step towards strengthening women’s respect, empowerment, and financial independence. He welcomed the digital transfer system in the scheme, saying it would help ensure transparency and effectiveness in delivering assistance to beneficiary women.
The Chief Minister said that the government had pledged to provide financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month to the women of Delhi, and today that commitment is being realized. Registration for the scheme began on August 1st, and more than 9.22 lakh women have registered so far. This scheme is not limited to providing financial assistance alone, but is a means to provide financial security, self-confidence, and the power to make their own decisions to the women of Delhi. The government is ensuring that eligible women receive their benefits in a transparent and systematic manner.
Rekha Gupta explained that the monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 under the scheme will be distributed keeping in mind both the women’s current expenses and future savings. Rs 1,000 will be available for spending through a digital wallet, while Rs 1,500 will be deposited in an FD/RD to create future savings for the women.
CM said that women are considered a symbol of prosperity and power in families and society, like Goddess Lakshmi. Women not only manage their families but also strengthen society as a whole. Therefore, the scheme has been named “Delhi Lakshmi Yojana” to enhance the economic strength and self-confidence of every sister in Delhi. Prime Minister Modi’s clear message is that if the country is to progress, women must be promoted. Only when women are economically and socially strong will families, society, and the country progress rapidly.
The Chief Minister stated that women and daughters are at the center of his government’s schemes. The Delhi government has launched several initiatives to address women’s different stages of life and their diverse needs. He also mentioned other Delhi government initiatives such as the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, Vidya Vahini Yojana, Palna Yojana, Pink Card, Annamol Yojana, and free LPG cylinders for eligible women. He stated that these schemes aim to make women’s lives easier, reduce the burden of family expenses, and make them more secure and self-reliant.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the central government is also continuously working towards the economic and social empowerment of women. He mentioned schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Lakhpati Didi, Drone Didi, and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The Chief Minister stated that before launching the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, he had visited the famous Lakshmi Temple in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, and prayed for the women of Delhi. He prayed to Goddess Lakshmi that this scheme never stops and that assistance continues to reach eligible women in Delhi every month, so that they can continue to progress and improve their lives.
She said that the launch of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana on this special occasion of Sawan, Teej, and Rakshabandhan is a special gift for the sisters of Delhi. Calling it a “Teej ka Sindhara” and “Rakhi gift” from the Prime Minister to the sisters of Delhi, he said that this assistance will give women the opportunity to utilize it for their needs and dreams. He also said that Delhi is the land of goddesses, blessed with the powers of Maa Jhandewali, Maa Kalka, Maa Chhatarpur, and Maa Yogmaya. His endeavor is to ensure that every woman in Delhi remains safe, happy, and self-reliant. The Chief Minister assured the Delhi sisters who had come to the event that he would personally deliver the Rakhi and thank you letters they had brought for the Prime Minister to them.
Delhi MPs Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, Manoj Tiwari, Yogendra Chandolia, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj, Praveen Khandelwal and Delhi Government ministers Pravesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, Delhi Mayor Pravesh Vahi, several MLAs and councillors were present in the programme. Apart from this, Delhi Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, Secretary of Women and Child Development Department Rashmi Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Vipul Pathak and other senior officials also marked their presence.
