Deoband highway horror: Canter crushes devotees, 4 dead, 15 injured

Saharanpur, October 10: In Deoband on Saturday morning, a canter loaded with utensils rammed into devotees returning with the Jyot of Goddess Shakambhari Devi on a highway flyover, killing four residents of Kushawali village in Meerut’s Sardhana area and injuring over 15, as chaos erupted before police and locals rushed the wounded to hospital.

Upon receiving the information, the district magistrate (DM) Arvind Chauhan and the SSP Abhinandan reached the Saharanpur district hospital and, after inquiring about the condition of the injured, instructed health department officials to provide them with the best possible treatment.

The DM stated that approximately 19 people from Kushawali village in the Sardhana area had traveled to visit Shakambhari Devi on October 7th by tractor trolley. At around 7 a.m. on Saturday, they were returning on foot carrying the goddess’s flame. Meanwhile, on a highway flyover in Deoband, a speeding canter loaded with utensils collided with the tractor trolley. Kushawali village residents Ramesh (40), Sagar (40), Aman (23), and Satendra were killed in the accident. More than 15 devotees were also injured. Police arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident.

CO Amit Kumar Singh stated that four people had died in the accident. The canter driver and conductor have been taken into custody. Police are investigating the cause of the accident and further action is being taken. After receiving first aid, the seriously injured were referred to hospitals in Saharanpur and Meerut.
