Yogi govt announces major DA boost, November salary to reflect increase

Lucknow, November 7: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has announced a Diwali bonanza for lakhs of state employees by increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 5%, raising it from 58% to 63% with effect from July 1, 2026, while the enhanced amount will be paid along with the November 2026 salary, benefiting regular state employees, aided educational institution staff, urban local body workers, and other eligible categories across the state.

According to the government order, arrangements have been made for different categories of employees for the payment of increased dearness allowance arrears from July 1 to October 31, 2026. The arrears of employees covered by the General Provident Fund (GPF) will be deposited into their provident fund accounts within the prescribed limits after deduction of income tax and surcharge. This amount will remain in the account until November 1, 2027. Under special circumstances, final withdrawal rules will apply.

A government spokesperson stated that for employees covered by the National Pension Scheme (NPS), 10 percent of the arrears will be deposited into their Tier-1 pension accounts. Apart from this, the state government, as the employer, will also deposit a contribution equal to 14 percent of the arrears in the Tier-01 account. The remaining 90 percent amount will be deposited in the PPF account or given in the form of NSC. In case NSC is not available, the concerned amount will be given in cash.

The government has given special relief to retired and nearing retirement employees. The employees whose services have been terminated before the issuance of the government order, who have retired between 01 July 2026 and the date of issuance of the government order or are going to retire within the next six months, will be given the full amount of dearness allowance arrears in cash.
