
Jhansi: Main culprit of online betting gang arrested from New Delhi
Jhansi, May 02: The Navabad police station of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, arrested the main culprit from Delhi late last evening, among the nine absconding members of a gang operating online betting worth more than 100 crore rupees, confirmed late last night by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) BBGTS Murthy.
Giving information late Friday night, the SSP said that recently the Navabad police had arrested Shubham Upadhyay, resident of Chhaniyapura, Vijay Badhwa, resident of Galla Mandi Road, and Nitin Agarwal, resident of Dadiyapura. Eight mobile phones, one tablet, 84,500 rupees in cash, one Fortuner car, and accounts related to illegal betting worth approximately 100 crore rupees were recovered from the accused. During the investigation, approximately 50 lakh rupees deposited in various bank accounts linked to the gang were frozen.
The SSP told further that in this case, the main culprit of the gang, BJP leader Ashish Upadhyay, has been arrested from Chanakyapuram in New Delhi. He is the director of Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank. A case has been registered against the arrested accused under relevant sections and further legal action is being taken.
The SSP said that among the 9 absconding bookies whom the police were searching for, after the arrest of Ashish Upadhyay, now the list includes Pappu, Pankaj Rai, Saurabh Likhdhari, Akash Chanchlani, Sumit Sahu, Roshan Munshi of Jhansi, Sonu Chaddha and Harish Kumar of Kanpur.
