Jamui molestation case: Police bullet pierces main accused’s leg, 2nd accused breaks both legs while fleeing
Patna, 22 September: In Jamui, Bihar, during the case of misbehavior and molestation with a minor, the police shot main accused Nandan Yadav in the leg during retaliatory action while arresting him, while co‑accused Hareram Yadav broke his leg while fleeing; both were admitted to Jamui Sadar Hospital, and so far six accused have been arrested in the case.
Additional Director General (ADG) Law and Order KS Anupam apprised on Tuesday that the police team was raiding to arrest the accused near Kundar Barrage. During this, the police and the accused came face to face. The accused attacked the police team and tried to escape. The police then retaliated, shooting the main accused, Nandan Yadav, in the leg. Hareram Yadav suffered a broken leg while fleeing. Both are undergoing treatment at Jamui Sadar Hospital.
He stated that Nandan Yadav and Hareram Yadav are adults, residents of Pratappur village and tractor drivers by profession. According to the police, Nandan attacked the police team during the arrest and was injured in the ensuing action.
Given the seriousness of the incident, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the investigation on the instructions of Bihar Police Headquarters. A special CID team has arrived in Jamui and is investigating all aspects of the incident. Police are also investigating the people present at the time, the role of the accused, and other circumstances.
Meanwhile, the police have intensified their action regarding the disclosure of the identity of the minor victim and the circulation of videos and other material related to the incident on social media. According to Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal, case number 45/26 has been registered at the Cyber Police Station. Police have initiated action against 120 social media accounts that revealed the victim’s identity.
ADG KS Anupam stated that the process of removing the relevant social media accounts has been initiated. Take-down notices have also been issued to the relevant social media platforms to remove videos and other objectionable content. He stated that disseminating content that reveals the identity or face of the minor victim is subject to legal action.
The Police have appealed to the public not to share or repost videos or other content related to the incident on social media. According to the police, keeping the victim’s identity confidential is legally mandatory.
It is noteworthy that on September 19, at around 7 pm, some youths forcibly stopped a minor boy and girl riding a scooter near Madwa Pahad. The accused behaved indecently and assaulted them, and then made a video of the incident and circulated it on the internet.
Following the incident, the police initiated action to arrest the accused. Six accused have been arrested so far. During the arrest of the main accused, Nandan Yadav was injured in the scuffle between the police and the accused, while Hareram Yadav suffered a broken leg.
