Bhopal, August 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday filed a 636-page charge sheet in a special court in Bhopal in connection with the suspicious death of well-known actress Twisha Sharma of Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. Retired District Judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh have been named as accused in the case.
After the charge sheet was presented in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Shobhana Bhalave, the lawyers of both the parties have started studying the documents and evidence presented by the CBI. The lawyers will cross-verify the facts mentioned in the charge sheet with the available evidence. The further judicial process will be decided on the basis of the facts and evidence included in the challan.
The charge sheet charges former judge Giribala Singh under sections 80(2), 85, 108, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. Section 3 of the Dowry Prohibition Act relates to giving and taking dowry, and section 4 to demanding dowry.
It is noteworthy that after a preliminary investigation into the suspicious death of Twisha Sharma, a second post-mortem was conducted on the orders of the High Court. Subsequently, the CBI was entrusted with the investigation. During the investigation, the CBI examined the accused’s contacts, digital evidence, voice samples, and other forensic aspects. Former judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh are accused in the case, and both are in judicial custody. Previously, the special court had rejected Giribala Singh’s bail plea. The court denied bail due to the seriousness of the charges.
The case began on May 12th, when Twisha Sharma’s body was found hanging. Following the incident, questions arose about the circumstances of her death, and the police launched an investigation. The case proceeded based on the facts revealed during the preliminary investigation and the allegations made by the family.
The CBI recorded statements from individuals involved in the case, collected documentary and other evidence, and continued the investigation by connecting the dots. After completing the investigation, the CBI has now filed a charge sheet in court. The court is studying the charge sheet. Lawyers for both parties are also examining the documents and evidence. Following this, arguments will be presented in court, and the further judicial process will be determined.
