
“My friend was weak in Physics, so I took exam in his place,” admits ‘arrested’ candidate in UP Board case
Varanasi, June 02: The Varanasi police commissionerate on Tuesday arrested a man accused of appearing in the Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (UP Board) Intermediate Physics exam in place of his friend, the police reported.
The Sindhora police have initiated necessary legal action against the arrested accused, Narayan Bhardwaj, son of Faujdar Bhardwaj, resident of village Piyari, Chaubepur police station.
According to the Gomti Zone Commissionerate, Varanasi, the case came to light during the Intermediate Physics exam held on March 6 at the S.B. Inter College, Bunchi examination center, located in the Sindhora police station area. Investigation revealed that the candidate, Vaibhav Kumar Singh, son of Praveen Singh, resident of Fatehpur, Sindhora police station, was posing as his friend, Narayan Bhardwaj.
During the exam, the invigilator compared the photo on the admit card and the Aadhaar card and found a discrepancy. Upon suspicion, a thorough investigation revealed that the young man taking the exam was not the actual candidate, but had come to take the exam in place of someone else. A case was immediately registered based on the written complaint from the room inspector.
During the investigation, the name of Narayan Bhardwaj surfaced, prompting continuous efforts to arrest him. Finally, on Tuesday, Sindhora police arrested him.
During police interrogation, the accused admitted to being friends with Vaibhav Kumar Singh. Vaibhav was weak in Physics, so he decided to take the exam in his place. The accused stated that he had arrived at the examination center with Vaibhav’s Aadhaar card and admit card. However, during document verification, he feared being caught and escaped the scene by jumping from the first floor of the school building.
Police stated that the actual candidate, Vaibhav Kumar Singh, had already been arrested and legal action has been taken against him.
