SP nominates Ram Gopal Yadav, Nathwani for Rajya Sabha from UP
Lucknow, September 30: The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Wednesday took a step forward in the electoral process for the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh with the nomination of its two candidates. In the presence of SP national president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, senior party leaders Ramgopal Yadav and Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani filed their nomination papers before the election officials.
During the nomination, Akhilesh Yadav was accompanied by party general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav, MLAs Ravidas Mehrotra, OP Singh, Atul Pradhan and several other party leaders and MLAs. Both the candidates submitted their nomination papers and necessary documents to the election officials as per the prescribed procedure. The presence of SP MLAs also showed the activity within the party regarding the elections during the nomination.
It is noteworthy that Prof Ram Gopal Yadav, the SP’s national general secretary and a senior parliamentary figure, has been fielded by the party once again for the Rajya Sabha. Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, meanwhile, hails from a prominent industrial family and sports administration. He is currently associated with Reliance Industries and has also played a key role in the Gujarat Cricket Association.
Meanwhile, voting for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh is scheduled for October 16. According to the election schedule, the last date for filing nominations is October 6. Based on the current assembly strength, 37 first-preference votes are required for one Rajya Sabha seat.
The SP announced the names of two candidates on Wednesday. A formal announcement regarding the third candidate has not yet been made. This has sparked political debate about the SP’s future strategy for the Rajya Sabha elections.
