A large number of candidates had arrived in Patna from various districts to appear for the Bihar Police Prohibition Department recruitment examination. Candidates alleged that adequate train services were not available to reach the examination centers, and many trains were running significantly behind schedule. Furthermore, overcrowding in trains caused significant inconvenience to passengers.
Angry candidates began protesting at the Patliputra Railway Station. The protest quickly escalated, and the angry mob blocked the railway tracks. Some candidates staged a sit-in protest in front of an exam special train, disrupting train operations.
The situation worsened when the protesting mob began vandalizing the railway station premises, trains, and nearby shops. The miscreants also pelted stones at police and railway personnel. During this, many vehicles and public property were damaged.
Around six policemen, including Railway Inspector General Jitendra Rana and a station house officer, were injured in the stone-pelting incident. The injured policemen were sent to the hospital for treatment. According to officials, all are out of danger.
Seeing the situation getting out of control, the police used force to disperse the crowd. Tear gas shells were also fired and warning shots were fired in the air to disperse the crowd.
Police officials say that maintaining law and order was a priority, and the safety of passengers was also being affected due to the occupation of the railway track. Therefore, necessary action was taken.
The administration has stated that all those involved in the incident will be identified based on CCTV footage and video recordings. Strict action will be taken against those who damage government property, attack police, or disrupt law and order.
Officials have appealed to candidates to present their demands in a peaceful and democratic manner and to avoid any violence or damage to public property. Currently, the situation at Patliputra Railway Station is normal, but security agencies are monitoring the situation with utmost vigilance.
