CM Yogi to lay foundation of Gorakhpur international cricket stadium on Saturday

Gorakhpur, May 15: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will perform the groundbreaking ceremony and foundation stone laying ceremony for the international cricket stadium in Gorakhpur on Saturday.

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and State Sports Minister Girish Chandra Yadav will also be present at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the international cricket stadium, which is estimated to cost approximately ₹393 crore.

The construction of the Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium is one of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s dream projects. Following the Chief Minister’s announcement, construction work began on December 24, 2025, on land provided by the administration in Tal Nador. Prior to the formal foundation stone laying ceremony, work is progressing with the first installment of the project cost of ₹63.39 crore released by the government.

According to the Public Works Department, Construction Division 1 (Building), the executing agency, approximately 7 percent of the work has been completed so far. The stadium will be completed by December 23, 2027.

Gorakhpur Rural MLA Vipin Singh describes the international cricket stadium as a historic achievement for Gorakhpur. He says that with the completion of the international stadium, Gorakhpur will be known for its world-class sports infrastructure and international sporting events in the future. The international cricket stadium being built in Gorakhpur will span 46 acres.

With a total capacity of 30,000 spectators, the stadium will be built on a “ground plus two floor” layout. The main ground will have seven playing pitches and four practice pitches for players. The eastern and western stands of the stadium will each accommodate 14,490 spectators. The North Pavilion will accommodate 208 VIPs and 382 media personnel, while the South Pavilion will accommodate 1,708 VVIPs and VIPs. The main stadium will also feature four international-standard high-mast lights to accommodate night matches. In addition to cricket, other major events will also be held here.

The international stadium being built at an excellent location in terms of connectivity

The international cricket stadium being built at Tal Nador is located at an excellent location in terms of connectivity. Connected by the four-lane Gorakhpur-Varanasi highway, it is approximately 24 km from Gorakhpur Airport and approximately 20 km from the railway station. Therefore, it will be very easy for players and spectators to reach here.

100 crores from the CSR funds of petroleum companies

The country’s top petroleum companies will contribute a total of 100 crores from their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds for the construction of the international cricket stadium in Gorakhpur. After the MoU, the allocation of funds is underway. For the construction of the international stadium, Indian Oil Corporation Limited will contribute 60 crores from the CSR fund, Bharat Petroleum 30 crores and Hindustan Petroleum 10 crores.
