Rowdy riders break boom barrier at Greater Noida toll plaza, assault staff

Noida, June 11: Goons riding in four-wheelers broke the boom barrier at Luharli toll plaza in Dadri police station area late Wednesday night,  allowing more than a dozen vehicles to pass sans paying toll while honking; when confronted, toll employees were assaulted, leaving one seriously injured, and by Thursday morning police had registered a case against unidentified individuals.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone III Dr Praveen Ranjan Singh said that the incident occurred on Wednesday night. Unidentified motorists arrived at the toll plaza and started honking. When the toll employees did not open the barrier, they broke the boom barrier with their vehicles and several vehicles passed through one after another. When the toll employees stopped them and demanded the toll fee, the drivers started fighting. Toll worker Lokman Singh, a resident of Khurja, said that when he tried to stop them, he was assaulted. The accused knocked him down, beat him, and attacked him with bricks and stones. Lokman Singh suffered serious head injuries and was left bleeding. The attackers fled the scene, leaving him half dead. The injured toll worker, Lokman Singh, has been admitted to a hospital and is undergoing treatment. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the toll plaza.

The DCP stated that the police have registered a case and are searching for the accused. Based on the CCTV footage, the police have seized a Scorpio car belonging to a resident of Bamheta village. The car owner’s brother has been detained and is being interrogated.
