UP STF eliminates ‘dreaded’ criminal who killed three police officers

Varanasi, June 22: Lalan Singh, a criminal carrying a reward of ₹ 1 lakh, who had shot the then sub-inspector Ajay Yadav in the Rohaniya area of ​​Varanasi four years ago and looted his official pistol, was killed by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) during an encounter in Saharanpur last night, police told. 

Lallan Singh, a resident of Samastipur district of Bihar, had been a challenge for the Uttar Pradesh and Bihar police for a long time.

Late Sunday night, he had an encounter with the STF team on the Sarsawa-Nakur road in Saharanpur district. Lallan Singh was seriously injured in the retaliatory action. He was first taken to the Community Health Center in Sarsawa and later to the District Hospital in Saharanpur, where doctors declared him dead. One of his accomplices escaped during the encounter, and police teams are searching for him.

Lallan Singh’s name made headlines in Varanasi in 2022 when, along with his brothers Manish Singh and Rajneesh Singh, he shot and killed Sub-Inspector Ajay Yadav, posted at the Rohaniya police station, and looted his official pistol. This incident caused a stir within the police department.

Following the incident, on November 21, 2022, the Varanasi police surrounded the criminals in the Baragaon area under “Operation Patal Lok.” In the ensuing encounter between police and criminals, Lalan Singh’s two brothers, Manish Singh and Rajneesh Singh alias Baua, were killed, and the stolen official pistol was recovered. However, Lalan Singh managed to escape by eluding the police. Following this, the Varanasi police commissionerate announced a reward of ₹100,000 for his arrest, and the Chandauli Police announced a reward of ₹25,000 for his arrest.

According to police records, Lallan Singh had numerous cases registered against him for murder, assault on police officers, bank robbery, loot, and other serious crimes. In 2016, he was also implicated in the murder and robbery of Sub-Inspector R.R. Choudhary, who was on duty in Patna’s Fatuha police station area, and the robbery of his official pistol. He was also wanted in the murder of ASI Suresh Thakur in the Barh police station area and a robbery in Chandauli’s Sakaldiha area.

Originally a resident of Anand Golwa village, Mohiuddin Nagar police station area, Samastipur district, Bihar, Lallan Singh, along with his brothers and other gang members, carried out organized criminal activities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. According to police, he often returned to Varanasi and Chandauli areas to hide after committing crimes in Bihar.
