Wife, divorced daughter strangled to death while sleeping in Lucknow
Lucknow, October 9: A home guard strangled his wife and divorced daughter to death while they were asleep in the Krishnanagar police station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, after which senior police officers reached the spot to investigate, the accused was taken into custody, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem, told police.
The Krishnanagar police station in-charge PK Singh said that Ravindra Shankar, a resident of Bhola Khera, works as a home guard. He lives with his wife, Shyama Dulari (55), and two daughters, Pooja (32) and Priya. Pooja, the elder daughter, had been living at her father’s house since her second divorce. The home guard called the police this morning and reported that he had murdered his wife and daughter, Pooja. Upon learning of the incident, police took possession of the bodies, conducted a forensic examination, collected evidence, and sent them for post-mortem. The accused was taken into custody.
The police station in-charge stated that interrogation with the family revealed that Ravindra Shankar had a family dispute with his wife. Some time ago, after a dispute, his wife left the house without informing him, taking jewelry with her. Ravindra Shankar filed a missing person report at the police station. His wife, Shyama Dulari, returned home a few days ago. Meanwhile, his daughter, Pooja Sahu, was married in 2017. After a divorce from her first marriage, she remarried in 2022, but after the divorce from her second marriage, she remained living at her father’s home.
According to the police, prima facie, family discord appears to be the reason behind the incident, and the actual cause is being probed. Based on the complaint received from the family, a case has been registered under relevant sections and action is being taken.
