Congress MP dismissed from JNU amid sexual harassment allegations
New Delhi, October 9: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration has taken a serious step and dismissed Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a professor at the School of Social Sciences and a Congress MP from Manipur, from the University with immediate effect.
According to a JNU release, this order was issued based on the completion of the investigation into the sexual harassment allegations and the recommendation of the internal committee. Based on the internal committee’s investigation report and findings, it was recommended that Professor Akoijam be given “severe punishment” under the UGC Service Rules and the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules.
Several female students had filed formal complaints of sexual harassment against Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. Following this, the university’s Internal Complaints Committee initiated an investigation into the matter. The administration has taken this strict disciplinary action after the investigation process was completed.
It is noteworthy that Professor Akoijam is also a Congress MP from the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat.
