India counters China’s claims — Ladakh’s status non‑negotiable
New Delhi, October 13: India has stated that no matter how much China refutes our claim on Ladakh, it will not change the established fact that the Union Territory is an integral and inalienable part of India.
This statement came in response to China’s marking of twenty-eight (28) places and features in Ladakh with standard place and feature names on the official map of the Survey of India. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning had stated that China does not recognize Ladakh and strongly opposes the “standard names” issued by India for the area.
The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a response to this statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The spokesperson said that the statement made in the release issued by the Home Ministry is self-explanatory. The announcement stated that twenty-eight (28) places/features located in the Union Territory of Ladakh have been marked with standard place and feature names on the official Survey of India map, in consultation with the Union Territory of Ladakh and local stakeholders. The purpose of formally marking these places on the Survey of India map of the Union Territory of Ladakh is to facilitate their accurate identification and create better awareness among the general public.
