TESICON 2026: Dr BNBM Prasad highlights advances in medical Thoracoscopy
NEW DELHI: Lt Gen (Retd) Dr Prof BNBM Prasad, SM, VSM, PHS — former DGHS Armed Forces, President’s Honorary Surgeon and Medical Advisor to Govt of UP & Ex-Professor PCCM, KGMU — delivered a brilliant talk on Medical Thoracoscopy during the ongoing annual congress of Thoracic Endoscopic Society of India (TESICON) being held in New Delhi from Oct 2-4, 2026.
Prof Prasad is a pioneer in the field and holds the distinction of introducing the diagnostic and therapeutic pleural procedure for patients with undiagnosed pleural effusion (fluid in pleural cavity) through Make in India and Made in India approach way back in the nineties.
The minimally invasive procedure helps in accurate diagnosis of conditions like TB and cancer without need for costly surgical intervention.
Over last two decades, Dr Prasad has relentlessly worked to advance thoracoscopy in India and make it easily available to needy patients at much reduced cost, training a generation of pulmonologists and popularizing rigid thoracoscopy in resource-limited settings.
