EC tightens monitoring of voter list revision in Uttar Pradesh, freezes transfer till Jan 4

Lucknow, October 22: Transfers of officers involved in the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the voter list in Uttar Pradesh have been banned from November 12, 2026, to January 4, 2027, by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa, with exceptions only allowed after Election Commission approval; meanwhile, a report has been sought on voter list complaints in Pilibhit district, where action has already been taken against two officers.

The draft voter list for SSR in Uttar Pradesh will be released on November 12. Claims and objections will then be taken, and after these are resolved, the final list will be released on January 4, 2027. The state’s Chief Electoral Officer, Navdeep Rinwa, issued an order in this regard on Wednesday.

He stated that no officers or employees will be transferred between the release of the draft voter list and the final voter list.

He further stated that under Section 13C of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, officers involved in the preparation, revision, and amendment of the voter list are considered on deputation to the Election Commission. They are subject to the Commission’s control, supervision, and discipline during this period. The draft voter list will be released on November 12. Claims and objections to the draft voter list will then be accepted from November 12 to December 11th. Claims and objections will be resolved by December 28, and the final voter list will be released on January 4, 2027.

Rinwa stated that, as per the instructions of the Central Election Commission, the posts of officials engaged in the revision work, including the District Election Officer, Electoral Registration Officer, and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, will not be left vacant during the revision period. Additionally, complaints regarding irregularities in the voter list in Pilibhit district are being investigated expeditiously.

He told that following the preliminary investigation report, action has been taken against the electoral registration officer and the operator has also been removed from service. Notices have been issued to both individuals, seeking their responses, and further action will be taken after that.
