The Chief Minister stated in the review meeting that 23.60 lakh quintals of sugar is available in the state from cooperative sugar mills, 5.28 lakh quintals from municipal sugar mills, and 150.50 lakh quintals from private sugar mills (totaling 179.38 lakh quintals). If necessary, sugar mills should be operational from October 15.
Yogi appealed to the public to be wary of those spreading misinformation by claiming a sugar shortage. He directed administrative officials to take strict action against sugar blackmarketers and those spreading misinformation. In accordance with the Government of India’s directive, he stated that no dealer should store sugar stocks for more than 30 days, and they cannot store more than 400 tonnes at a time. Bulk consumers (consumption of 10 metric tons per month) cannot hold stock for more than 15 days. Sugar mills must not hold sugar sold under their monthly quota in warehouses for more than seven days from the date of sale.
Chief Minister directed all District Magistrates to conduct physical verification of the warehouses of all registered sugar mills, wholesalers, and retailers in the district and obtain a report on the actual stock position. Strict action should be taken against hoarding or holding stocks beyond the prescribed limit. Continuously monitor the availability and price of sugar in the district, and immediately inform the government of any artificial shortage or price increase.
