Heavy rains fade, mercury climbs as monsoon pauses in Maharashtra
Mumbai, July 14: The Maharashtra received heavy rains in some parts at the beginning of July, but now the monsoon has taken a break resulting in the rising of the mercury across the state. Many parts of the state are still dry. Meanwhile, meteorologists have predicted that the monsoon may pick up pace again after July 20.
This year, the effects of global warming are being seen rapidly. The ‘El Niño’ condition in the Pacific Ocean has affected the entire monsoon. Dry winds coming from Afghanistan have also had an impact. Monsoon clouds are missing.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that there is little chance of rain in the state for the next few days. Due to the lack of a weather system that strengthens the monsoon, rain is absent except for light showers in some areas, and this situation is expected to continue for the next few days.
According to the Meteorological Department, light showers are expected in most parts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are forecast for parts of Vidarbha between Wednesday and Saturday. Light showers are also expected in parts of Central Maharashtra and Marathwada during this time. Half of Maharashtra remains dry, and some areas have received below-average rainfall, raising concerns. However, a low-pressure depression is developing in the Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is expected to regain its strength after July 20.
