Salman Khan’s ‘Matrubhoomi’ faces delay as CBFC (Controlled by I&B Ministry) holds certification
The release of Salman Khan’s highly anticipated film “Matrubhoomi” is currently in limbo. According to reports, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has put the film’s certification on hold until further notice. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict. Originally titled “Battle of Galwan,” it was slated for theatrical release in August.
The release of the film’s teaser reportedly sparked controversy in China. Chinese social media alleged that the film misrepresented the Galwan Valley incident. Following the controversy, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that it had no involvement in the film’s production or presentation. Now, with the Censor Board halting the certification process, uncertainty surrounding the film’s release has increased.
In the film, Salman Khan plays the role of martyred Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment. Chitrangada Singh, Abhilash Chaudhary, and Ankur Bhatia will also be seen in lead roles. The film’s music has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.
The film was originally scheduled to release on April 17, but was later postponed to August. A new release date is now awaited.
