Yogi highlights Mukherjee’s stand against Nehru’s appeasement policy
Lucknow, July 06: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on Monday by offering floral tributes at his statue on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Chief Minister Yogi said that when the appeasement policy of Nehru government became a challenge to the integrity of the country, Mukherjee renounced the politics of power. He had separated from the government.
Addressing the journalists on this occasion, Chief Minister Yogi said that today is the 125th holy birth anniversary of Dr. Mukherjee, the great son of Mother India, great freedom fighter, educationist, first Food Industry Minister of independent India, who proclaimed that there will not be two constitutions, two prime ministers, two flags in one country. On this occasion, I pay my humble tribute to the memory of this great son of Mother India, on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government and the people of Uttar Pradesh.
Yogi said that Dr Mukherjee was born in Bengal in 1901. He began his career as a professor while pursuing higher education. At the age of 33, he rendered significant service as the Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University. He was prominently involved in the country’s independence movement. When nefarious plots were being hatched to make Bengal a part of Pakistan, he stood up against it. If today’s West Bengal is part of India, then Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s name should be prominently mentioned among the great leaders who dedicated themselves to this movement and raised their voices.
Yogi said that as the country’s Minister of Food and Industry in independent India, he worked prominently to implement the Food Policy and Industrial Policy. But when the Nehru government’s appeasement policy became a challenge to the nation’s integrity, he renounced power politics and separated from the government. After the formation of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, as its founding president, he worked for the nation’s integrity. Proclaiming, “Two constitutions, two flags, and two heads will not work in one country,” he opposed the permit system in Kashmir. He was arrested. He was martyred in Kashmir in 1953. The dream that Dr Mukherjee had proclaimed against the Nehru government’s appeasement policy regarding Article 370 has been realized by the BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. In 2019, Article 370 was abolished in Kashmir, effectively implementing Indian law within Kashmir.
This is a matter of good fortune for all of us. Today, the Bharatiya Janata Party is in power in West Bengal. The double-engine government is working effectively to restore all the sites associated with Dr. Mukherjee. Today, we pay our humble tribute to this great son of Mother India, paying homage to his memory. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Water Power Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal, BJP Metropolitan President Anand Dwivedi, and others were present on this occasion.
