Youth arrested for sending fake email alleging a plot to assassinate Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari

Kolkata, May 16: The Kolkata police have arrested a youth for allegedly sending a fake email alleging a plot to assassinate West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. During a press conference held at Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar on Saturday, it was revealed that the accused had sent the email due to a personal grudge. The arrested youth has been identified as Hasnem Iqbal.

According to police, on May 14, the Bhawanipur police station received an email claiming that a woman was planning to assassinate Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The email stated that the woman was associated with the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda and was preparing a bomb for a suicide attack. Upon receiving the email, police swung into action and launched an investigation. With the help of the Garden Reach police station, the sender was identified.

During interrogation, the accused admitted that the information provided in the email was completely false. According to the police, the accused had a personal dispute with the woman named in the email and hatched this conspiracy to frame her.

The police investigations have also revealed that the accused has previously sent similar fake emails in the name of several political figures, even sending such misleading emails to the Election Commission.

The Kolkata police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against those who send such fake and misleading emails in the future. Police officials stated that the perpetrators in such cases will sooner or later be caught, so anyone should refrain from such activities.

It is noteworthy that after the BJP’s landslide victory in the assembly elections, Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 9. Coincidentally, he himself is the MLA from the Bhawanipur assembly constituency, where he defeated former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by over 15,000 votes. Following the threatening email, the Chief Minister’s security has been further tightened.
