
BHU’s National Center for Aging under construction, CM Yogi reviews work
Varanasi, June 13: The last day of his two-day visit to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a site inspection of the under-construction state-of-the-art ‘National Center for Aging’ on Saturday located on the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the building construction and directed the officials of the executing agency to complete the project in a timely manner and with high quality.
Chief Minister said that there should be no compromise on quality in the construction work. He also directed the officials of the BHU administration to ensure regular monitoring of the project so that the center’s construction work is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
It is worth noting that the “National Center for Aging” is being constructed on the campus of the Institute of Medical Sciences of BHU, keeping in mind the healthcare needs of the elderly. This seven-story building, constructed at a cost of approximately ₹150 crore, will house 200 beds. This center will be the third geriatric center in the country and the leading geriatric center in North India. Its construction is currently in its final stages.
The center will provide a variety of specialized medical facilities for elderly patients, including a multi-specialty geriatric OPD, a memory clinic, and an arthritis clinic. Additionally, modular operating theaters, state-of-the-art diagnostic and radiology services, a rehabilitation center, a daycare facility, an ICU, and private wards will also be established. The
“National Center for Aging” will not only be limited to treatment, but will also promote capacity building, human resource development, and research in the field of geriatric medicine. Along with increasing the number of senior physicians and senior residents, the number of postgraduate seats for MD Geriatric Medicine will also be expanded. The center will conduct specialized research on the diseases and problems associated with aging, and develop standardized guidelines for the treatment and care of the elderly.
The Department of Geriatric Medicine will also provide specialized training for the elderly to doctors, nurses, and health workers. During the inspection, the Chief Minister described the project as crucial for the state’s elderly population and emphasized its early completion and dedication to public service.
