
Indian Air Force plane crashes in Jorhat, Assam, five soldiers martyred
Jorhat (Assam), June 13: An AN-32 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed at the Rowriah Air Force Station in Jorhat, Assam on Friday. Five Air Force personnel made the supreme sacrifice in the accident. The aircraft met with an accident during landing and subsequently caught fire.
In an official statement issued by the Indian Air Force on the social media platform X, it has been said that the Indian Air Force is deeply saddened by the demise of five of its personnel in the AN-32 aircraft crash in Jorhat, Assam. Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveer Vayu Khemaram Kumawat and Agniveer Vayu Danish Alam made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The Indian Air Force expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and stands firmly with them in this hour of grief.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief over the incident in an email, saying, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of five air warriors in the AN-32 aircraft crash in Jorhat, Assam. Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveer Vayu Khemaram Kumawat, and Agniveer Vayu Danish Alam made the supreme sacrifice. The nation will always remember their courage and service with pride and gratitude. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. The nation stands firmly with them in this hour of grief.”
According to eyewitnesses, high flames and thick smoke were seen in the airbase area after the crash. The crashed aircraft reportedly belonged to the Air Force’s 43rd Squadron and was on a routine military sortie. The aircraft is used to transport military supplies and logistics.
According to sources, the plane failed to land safely on the designated runway and landed on a grassy and uneven area of the airbase. Following a loud explosion during landing, the plane caught fire and split into two.
Immediately after the accident, the airbase’s fire brigade and emergency rescue teams arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control. The administration and security agencies have launched a rescue and relief operation.
The Indian Air Force confirmed the incident, stating that an AN-32 aircraft had crashed in Jorhat. The Air Force stated that the matter is under investigation and will share further details as soon as they become available. A
detailed investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident. It is worth noting that the Rauraiya Air Force Station in Jorhat is a key IAF base in Northeast India, playing a vital role in conducting air operations, military logistics, and strategic activities in the region.
