Yogi govt sanctions ₹1.04 cr to revive Gomti’s origin in Pilibhit

Lucknow, June 29: the Yogi government has approved a project worth ₹1.04 crore for the development of the Gomti River’s origin site located in Kalinagar tehsil of the Puranpur assembly constituency of Pilibhit district.

The Yogi government is continuously taking steps to elevate religious and cultural tourism in Uttar Pradesh. Following the extensive development of major pilgrimage sites like Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, Naimisharanya, and Vindhya Dham, the state government has now decided to develop the origin site of the life-giving Gomti River into a world-class tourist and faith center. In this regard,

An amount of ₹78 lakh has been released in the first phase. After the project’s completion, the site will become a new attraction for religious, cultural, and natural tourism.

Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that human civilization has always flourished along the banks of rivers. The Gomti River, the state’s lifeline and a symbol of cultural fervor, originates from Gomat Tal (formerly Fulhar Lake) near Madhotanda village in Pilibhit district. The Gomti River, highly revered in the Sanatan tradition, irrigates vast areas of the state and supports the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. He stated that the Tourism Department is developing the Gomti origin site as a major spiritual, cultural, and tourist destination.

Several projects will be undertaken to enhance tourist attractions.

Under the project, modern infrastructure will be constructed for the convenience of pilgrims and tourists. A multipurpose hall will be constructed at a cost of approximately ₹48.69 lakh, while a modern toilet block will be constructed for ₹13.44 lakh and a shed will be constructed for ₹9.45 lakh.

Additionally, interlocking roads, attractive gardens and beautification, solar-based facilities, and other passenger amenities will also be developed. The Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) has been entrusted with the responsibility of completing this project.

The Gomti River holds special reverence in the ancient tradition. It originates from the mythical Fulhar Lake (Gomt Tal) located in the Madhotanda area of Pilibhit district. Traveling approximately 960 kilometers, this river provides life to the districts of Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi, Sitapur, Lucknow, Barabanki, Sultanpur, and Jaunpur, before finally merging with the Ganga River in Ghazipur district.

According to mythological beliefs, Lord Rama bathed in the Gomti River after conquering Lanka, earning merit. Naimisharanya, the place of penance for 33 crore gods and goddesses, is also believed to be on the banks of the Gomti River. This is why the Gomti River is considered a carrier of the state’s religious faith and cultural heritage.

Mother Gomti is a symbol of eternal faith

Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is committed to giving its natural heritage a unique identity. The origin of Mother Gomti is not merely a geographical point, but also an important site in our eternal faith and folk life. Its comprehensive development will provide better facilities for devotees and tourists. Our endeavor is to ensure that every sacred heritage of the state is given a respectable place on the world tourism map.
