706 tankers deployed as 1,652 villages face acute water shortage in Maharashtra
Mumbai, May 19: The intense heat in Maharashtra has created a water crisis in many areas. The state government has continued to supply water through tankers in various districts to provide drinking water to the people. Water is being supplied through 706 tankers in 15 districts of the state.
According to information provided by the state government, a total of 706 tankers are being used to supply water to 633 villages and 1652 settlements in 15 districts of the state. These tankers include 33 government and 669 private tankers. Due to the rising temperatures, wells, borewells, and small water sources are drying up. As a result, tankers are becoming the main source of drinking water for people in many rural areas.
In the Thane division, 155 tankers are supplying water to 177 villages and settlements. In the Nashik division, 159 tankers are being used for 156 villages and 444 settlements. In the Pune division, 131 tankers are supplying water to 145 villages and 572 settlements. In the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, a total of 244 tankers are serving 138 villages and 64 settlements. This division is using the highest number of tankers in the state. In the Amravati division, 17 tankers are supplying water to 17 villages. There is currently no need for tankers anywhere in the Nagpur division.
Given the water shortage in the state, the respective district administrations, gram panchayats, and water supply departments are closely monitoring the situation. All necessary steps are being taken to ensure regular and safe drinking water is available to the public. In addition to tanker supply, emphasis is being placed on the use of other water sources, including wells and reservoirs. Anticipating a further increase in temperatures in the coming days, the administration has planned to increase the number of tankers needed in water-scarce areas.
