Members of ‘tappebaaz’ gang operating in Lucknow, held: Lucknow man found dead, murder suspected
Lucknow, May 23: Three people, including a pickpocketer gang leader, were arrested on Saturday in the Krishnanagar police station area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. These people prey on passengers while sitting in auto-rickshaws or tempos. Following their arrest, police have uncovered several cases of pickpocketing.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Rallapalli, Basanth Kumar, told reporters in his office on Saturday that three people, including the gang leader, have been arrested. They have been identified as Bindu alias Chinki, a resident of Gorakhpur, Geeta Devi of Gorakhpur, and Narsingh, a resident of Sangrampur in the same district. Narsingh and Chinki are related to each other as son-in-law and mother-in-law.
During interrogation, Bindu alias Chinki admitted to being the gang leader. She and other gang members live temporarily in various metropolitan cities, renting hotel rooms or building slums. They constantly look for targets in crowded areas. They often arrive to commit crimes in their Bolero vehicle, which is without a number plate, driven by Narsingh. We park the vehicle on the roadside and stand with small children at busy intersections and roundabouts in metropolitan areas to stalk passersby. As soon as someone boards an auto or tempo, the gang members systematically try to get into the same vehicle, jostling and confusing the passengers. Meanwhile, other gang members take advantage of the situation and steal gold and silver jewelry, purses, and other valuables from the passengers with impunity.
A month ago, a chain was stolen from a woman near Krishna Nagar Metro Station in a similar manner, and on May 19 and 20, a chain and a mangalsutra locket were stolen from Awadh Square at different times. To avoid arrest, they keep changing their hideouts. Apart from Lucknow, cases have been registered against the accused in police stations of Kanpur Nagar and Kushinagar districts. The police recovered the car used in the theft, jewellery, and Rs 12,000 in cash, along with other items, from them. The police are taking further action against the arrested accused.
