Army launches massive search after five soldiers go missing in Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar, August 16: At least, five Army soldiers who went missing in Dibang Valley district due to heavy rains in Arunachal Pradesh are still unaccounted for. The search for them is ongoing. Five Army soldiers went missing in the recent flash floods, two of whom were rescued.
The superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Kumar said that search and rescue operations are underway, but there is no news of the five missing soldiers yet. According to the officer, the incident occurred on Friday evening when two Army shelters were swept away by flash floods in Dibang Valley district. The accident occurred due to flash floods in Pasu Pani, about 25 kilometers from Mipi Circle. This flooded the surrounding area, causing significant inconvenience to both the army and civilians.
The floods swept away two shelters belonging to the 5th Grenadiers at the Pasu Pani Army Camp. Seven soldiers were present, two of whom were rescued, while five are still missing. The missing soldiers have been identified as Havildar Upendra, Kundan, Vinod, Aditya, and Samunda. The SDRF, NDRF, and district administration are currently engaged in search and rescue operations. Two search and rescue teams from the 5th Grenadiers have also been deployed to locate the missing soldiers. The 58th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the 62 RCC of the General Reserve Engineer Force, the Arunachal Pradesh Police, and local volunteers are assisting in this operation. Search operations are ongoing in difficult terrain. Damage to the army camp and other infrastructure is also being assessed.
Meanwhile, the bodies of all four people killed in a massive landslide in Nacho in Upper Subansiri district have been recovered, while one person was rescued and sent to Itanagar hospital.
According to sources, the bodies recovered have been identified as Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Babul Ali, and Marcos Basumatary. The rescued person has been identified as Sonar Basumatary.
