The Meteorological Department has warned that very heavy rain of more than 21 cm is possible at some places in the south-eastern districts of the state. This is in conjunction with several upper-air cyclonic circulations spread over northern India. This system, which is responsible for heavy rain, will move west-northwestward over the next 24 hours and then weaken and transform into a low-pressure area.
Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist at the Meteorological Center, Lucknow, stated that the depression over northern Jharkhand and adjacent southwestern Bihar moved west-northwestward at a speed of 18 km/h over the past six hours and was centered today over southwestern Bihar and southeastern Uttar Pradesh, near latitude 24.3°N and longitude 83.9°E. It was located 170 km southeast of Varanasi and 210 km east of Sidhi (Madhya Pradesh). Due to a disturbance in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains are expected in eastern Uttar Pradesh today.
According to meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh, the monsoon is expected to remain active across the state for the next week. Most districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh, along with central Uttar Pradesh, will experience heavy rains for the next six to seven days.
