Seychelles’ ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ award to PM Modi
New Delhi, June 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the prestigious ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ award by Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie at a special ceremony on Sunday.
The award was given to the Prime Minister for his green leadership (environment-friendly leadership), efforts to advance the interests of developing countries, and his long-standing commitment to promoting the ‘blue economy’ (ocean economy), climate action, sustainable management of marine resources, and the development aspirations of small island developing states. This is the first time this special award has been given.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Prime Minister dedicated this award to all countries that are committed to environmental protection and combating climate change. He emphasized that this honor, at a time when both countries are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations, will play a significant role in further strengthening their special friendship.
According to the Ministry, this honor recognizes the Prime Minister’s long-standing commitment to a greener planet. This includes initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Mission Life (a lifestyle for the environment), ‘One Tree for Mother’, and the International Big Cat Alliance. This honor is the latest in a series of similar honors received by the Prime Minister for promoting sustainable development. Previously, he has received the FAO Agricola Medal, the Seoul Peace Prize, and the UN’s ‘Champion of the Earth’ award.
The Ministry states that this honor underscores the importance Seychelles attaches to India’s growing role as a trusted partner in capacity building, environmental action, sustainable development initiatives, and advancing shared priorities in the Indian Ocean region.
It is noteworthy that 34 countries have honored Prime Minister Modi with their highest honors so far.
