UP Court adjourns Rahul Gandhi case, next hearing on August 5
Sultanpur, July 18: The hearing in the defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the MP MLA Court of Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, was postponed on Saturday. The next hearing in the case will now be held on August 5. No hearing took place today due to the court being vacant.
Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, stated on Saturday that a monitoring petition related to this case was pending in the Additional District Magistrate’s Court. It was dismissed at the previous hearing. After the dismissal of the monitoring petition, the original file was to be returned, after which the case would be debated.
This monitoring petition was related to Rahul Gandhi’s voice sample in Additional District Magistrate Court No. 5. The petition was filed by complainant Vijay Mishra, which was dismissed by the court on July 15. The petition sought a forensic laboratory match between the CD attached to the file and Rahul Gandhi’s voice sample.
Santosh Pandey, the lawyer representing plaintiff Vijay Mishra, stated that he would appeal the High Court’s appeal. Previously, on May 2, the MP/MLA Court rejected the request for voice sample matching. Subsequently, on May 21, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Santosh Pandey, filed a revision petition in the MP/MLA Court’s Sessions Court. The court heard arguments from both parties on July 1 and reserved its decision, setting a date for July 15.
It is noteworthy that during the 2018 Karnataka elections, Rahul Gandhi made derogatory remarks about Amit Shah. Infuriated by this, BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed a complaint in the Sultanpur MP/MLA Court. Following a court warrant, he appeared in court for the first time in this case on February 20, 2024, where the court granted him bail on two sureties of 25,000 rupees each. After this, on July 26, 2024, Rahul recorded his statement in court. The last time Rahul Gandhi appeared in court to present his side was on February 20, 2026.
